Early Predictors of Atopic Dermatitis and Food Allergy

AD is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease that affects both children and adults. The development of AD and FA may be predicted by analyzing factors such as genetics, skin barrier function, skin lipid profiles, epidermal cytokine profiles, cutaneous microbiome and environments, including air pollution and temperature. The complex pathophysiology of AD emphasizes the importance of early intervention trials in younger pediatric populations. Such trials may play a pivotal role in preventing and modifying the severity and progression of AD and FA. This article explored critical aspects of AD and FA, including the pathogenesis of these 2 diseases. Additionally, it highlighted the significant potential of STS as a promising tool for identifying predictive and follow-up noninvasive biomarkers in infants predisposed to the clinical onset of AD and FA. Early identification of high-risk children enables the implementation of targeted preventive strategies before the age of 2 months, potentially altering the clinical onset of AD and FA during infancy.
