Impact of Low-Intensity Exercise and Capsinoid Supplementation on Blood Lipids in Overweight and Obese Women

OBJECTIVES This study examined the impacts of capsinoid supplementation combined with low-intensity exercise on blood lipid profiles in overweight and obese young women. METHODS Thirty-four overweight/obese women (BMI ≥23 kg/m²) completed an 8-week double-blind, randomized controlled trial. Participants were randomly assigned to either the low-intensity exercise (LIE) + HabaNova™ group (n=19) or the LIE + placebo group (n=15). The exercise program consisted of supervised treadmill walking (3 times per week, 30 minutes, 57-63% HRmax) and home-based resistance exercise (2 times per week). Participants consumed HabaNova™ tablets (250 mg, 275.5 μg capsinoids/g) or placebo daily. Primary outcome measures were changes in body composition and plasma lipid profiles. RESULTS There were no significant differences between the groups in lipid profiles, such as total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C, and HDL-C. CONCLUSIONS The combination of HabaNova™ supplementation and low-intensity exercise did not yield significant improvements in lipid metabolism. This lack of efficacy may be ascribed to insufficient exercise intensity, a limited intervention period, and the participants’ normal baseline lipid profiles
