Sustainable resource utilization: repurposing alumina from petrochemical catalysts for LED phosphors

This study investigates the recycling of alumina from spent petrochemical catalysts to promote resource circularity and support sustainable applications. High-purity α-phase alumina was successfully produced through optimized screening, calcination, and milling processes. The recycled alumina was then used to synthesize YAG: Ce phosphors for LED packag- ing. The resulting LED packages achieved a luminous flux of 224 lm at 500 mA, demonstrating the potential of alumina recycling to link resource recovery with the advancement of high-performance optoelectronic technologies.
