In this study, the surface film formation reactions occurring on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) in propylene carbonate (PC) containing lithium bis(oxalato) borate (LiBOB) were investigated. In-situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy analysis revealed that a thin film with a thickness of similar to 5 nm was formed on the HOPG basal plane after the first potential cycle. There was no evidence of co-intercalation of the solvent molecules. The cyclic voltammetry analysis revealed that the nature of the surface film formed in 1 mol kg(-1) of LiBOB in PC was significantly different from that formed in an ethylene carbonate-based solution.
